“I miss the honky tonks, Dairy Queens and 7-Elevens”
Time keeps on slippin’ into ye olde future.
And that’s what we document here.
Connecticut Yankees jousting, De Loreans that hit 88 miles per hour, robots, brave new worlds, big brothers, experimental prototype communities of tomorrow, replicants, androids, metropolises, rhizomes, jet packs, constructivism, deconstruction, cyberspace, cyberpunk, steampunk, biopunk, biodissonance, steamspace, biospace, flying cars, flying bricks, and stuff from people named Disney, Orwell, Le Corbusier, Wright, Bowie, Borges, Fuller, Lem, Tatlin, Deleuze, Costa, Bradbury, Chernikhov, Heinlein, Soleri, and others.
It’s (nominally)about the problems and pleasures of being of a world of Pfizer, Wal-mart, the IMF and Starbucks, but not for it.
Future past, future present and future future.
(nothing but) flowers is a loose organization of intelligent, (mostly) like-minds sharing their finds and thoughts on literature, comics, economics, art, sport, politics, music, architecture, film, and urbanism.
The name, along with this epigraph, comes from the Talking Heads song (Nothing But) Flowers which is really awesome.
So awesome, in fact, that you should see it:
The subtitle is, of course, from the Sex Pistols’ No Future. For more, see Greil Marcus’
Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the Twentieth Century. Hell, just read a bunch of Greil Marcus.
